Capital Insurance Group: Flood Insurance Options for Southeast Michigan Residents
Flooding is the number-one natural disaster in the U.S., wreaking havoc on communities, businesses and residences. But time and again after a storm, we hear of countless individuals and families who are without flood insurance to help get them back on their feet after water damage has left homes uninhabitable or severely damaged. At Capital Insurance Group, we can’t stress enough the need for flood insurance for residents in Southeast Michigan – even for those who don’t live in what’s considered a high-risk area. Floods and flash floods can occur anywhere, and just an inch of water can cause damage to your property. Most importantly, your homeowners insurance will not provide coverage.
Purchasing Flood Coverage
The insurance professionals at Capital can obtain flood insurance on your behalf through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), in addition through alternative markets, which in many cases may be better suited for the areas we serve where flooding is prevalent. A flood policy under the NFIP will cover direct physical damage to the insured property from floodwater up to $250,000. Typically coverage for the contents of a home is not included but enhancements are available up to $100,000.
Depending on your needs and the value of your home, you may require broader coverage than available from the government’s program, which we can secure through our competitive markets. If you have a high-value home, excess flood insurance may be required to substantially increase the limits of coverage for both the structure and its contents. Excess flood policies can also provide money for additional living expenses while your property is restored.
We also have markets that write coastal and non-coastal homes in flood zones, secondary homes, rental homes, and condominium units.
Capital will provide you with information to help you in the event of a flood, including safety tips and what to do before, during and after a flood. As a valued customer, our goal is to keep you and your family safe in addition to being properly insured.
